Well thank you!
If you have a question that why do you have to learn a new language altogether for a simple task like changing the color of the text, then you my friend are at luck.
Excel provides a capability to record your steps and store that as a macro. You can then rerun that code with just some key combination from keyboard.
Do you want to see something fancy?
Below is a blank sheet. Lets try to make a chess board out of it
First, think what do you want.
You should be asking yourself all sort of questions. Irrespective of what they are?
Out of those questions you should ask yourself what should be the color combination?
Should you start with Black first? Does it have to be 8x8?
What questions came to your mind? let me know in the comments
I like the combination to be classic black and white. Since, I am a black, I would start with black. Lol, no. since, the background color is already white, you only need to fill black.
Yes, it has to be 8x8 else it would not be a chess board and we are not building Sudoku. Right?
Before you proceed, I would ask you to copy this sheet and paste it into Sheet 2( I will tell you later)
Ok, now lets start recording our steps
1. Select the first cell which you want to color
2. Click on the record Macro button under Developer tab
or ,
You can also click on the Record macro button at the bottom
3. You will get a box to provide macro name and shortcut alphabet
keep the name as it is. add any alphabet for shortcut key. I personally like 'q' as it is close to control.
4. Click OK
5. Choose one cell and color it black.
6. Now stop the recording
7, Now select alternate cell and press your keyboard shortcuts( for me it is CTRL+ q)
Select
CTRL+q
See, wasn't that amazing? Oh I know not that amazing but wait for it.
8. Press CTRL key and select all the cells that you would like to have colored
and press CTRL + q
No the horse is just for animation. It was not added from macro. Lol
Task for you.
Make the chess board with your favorite color combination. I assume it would be Yellow or Pink. Play around and comment your thoughts in the comments section.
